Automating the Login Process

Wednesday, July 13th, 2011

To automate the login process in TinyTERM, open the Edit menu and select either Settings(TinyTERM 4.65 or higher) or Session Properties(TinyTERM 4.64 or lower). When the Session Properties dialog opens, click on the Login tab. Enter your username and password in the appropriate boxes, and check the Login at connect box. Click OK to close the dialog, then go to the File menu and select Save Session. The next time TinyTERM connects to the server, it will login automatically.

This process will work for telnet or RS232 connections. SSH connections include the username as part of the connection negotiation, so the Login at connect box is not available or necessary.

Automated login is only available in TinyTERM for Windows at this point. It has not yet been added to TinyTERM ITX or TinyTERM for iPad.

For more information about automating login, including the available control strings, please see this Knowledge Base entry.

Automated Login

Monday, November 15th, 2010

Century Software has received a request to add an automatic login capability to TinyTERM for iPad.

CR 906

RSA Authentication Requests Username and Password

Thursday, May 3rd, 2007

Generate an RSA key through any method, then copy it to the PC. Load the key in TinyTERM and supply the username & hostname as normal. TinyTERM still asks for both username and password on connect, as though RSA key was not there.

This happens because the hka= and hkafile= keys in the .tpx file aren’t set when you use an RSA key. The key is ignored because it’s not written to the .tpx. But manually editing the information into the .tpx file doesn’t always work either.

CR 788

Auto Login for TN3270

Thursday, May 3rd, 2007

The Login tab of Session Properties is normally grayed out when using TN3270 or TN5250 emulation. The only available items on the tab are Use private key and the Load Key button, both for SSL/TLS connections. Century Software, Inc., has had a request to make the rest of the tab available for automating telnet login for TN3270 emulation.

CR 786

Active Directory Single Sign-On

Wednesday, May 2nd, 2007

Century Software, Inc., has had a request to have TinyTERM draw its login information from Microsoft Active Directory. This would allow a single sign-on for the user’s PC, the Windows network and any UNIX or Linux systems.

CR 753

SecureFT Login Prompt

Wednesday, May 2nd, 2007

SecureFT requires you to enter a username and password for each connection. Leaving them blank produces the error, “Error occurred on connected event with message: Last command line completely unrecognized.”

Century Software, Inc., has had a request to add a login prompt to SecureFT. This would allow the connection to be set up with no username or password. On connect, it would prompt the user to enter them before continuing.

CR 716

Keyboard-Interactive Authentication

Wednesday, May 2nd, 2007

Century Software, Inc., has had a request for keyboard-interactive authentication for SSH. This would allow standard login and password prompts over an SSH connection. It has not been implemented thus far.

CR 698

Multiple Sessions Don’t All Login

Monday, April 30th, 2007

Set up a TinyTERM shortcut to open multiple .tpx files. Configure each to login automatically and start a host application. The application doesn’t start in all sessions. If you open the .tpx files one at a time in a single instance of TinyTERM, each connects properly and loads the application.

CR 632

Login Changes Not Saved

Friday, April 27th, 2007

In Session Properties, configure a connection and check Establish connection on open. Next, go to the Login tab and enter a username and password. Check the Login at connect box as well. Save the settings and exit TinyTERM.

Go back to TinyTERM and change the username or password in the Login tab. The changes will not save. The only way to save the Login tab changes is to uncheck Establish connection on open on the Session tab, then save the settings and restart TinyTERM. After doing that, you can make the needed changes on the Login tab.

CR 552, fixed in TinyTERM 4.61

Invalid Page Fault in CenTE.ocx

Thursday, April 26th, 2007

With Login at connect configured, TinyTERM will sometimes generate the error, “tt caused an invalid page fault in module CenTE.OCX and will be terminated.” This has not been duplicated by Century Software, Inc.

It has been reported that removing the “^M” string from the 1st send: line on the Login tab of Session Properties gets rid of the error. Checking the Show output during login option on that tab has also reportedly fixed the error.
