This Product Is Not Licensed
March 26th, 2007

This error generally means the license is missing from the Windows registry. To add the license, click on Start | Programs | TinyTERM and run the License Manager. Click Upgrade to enter your serial number and activation key, then click Update License. Close the License Manager after this.

If you get the error, “This serial number and activation key have already been used,” check your Windows system clock. If the date is not correct, fixing it should fix the license error also.

If the License Manager does not help, and the system clock is correct, you will need to edit the registry as described in this entry.

Switching Sessions with a Keystroke
March 26th, 2007

TERM and TinyTERM for Windows allow multiple sessions to be opened in a single window. You can switch through these sessions in order with the NEXTSESS keyboard function.

To access that function, open the keyboard mapper. Click the “Chart Open” button to bring up the key chart. On the right of the chart, click the “F” button for a list of functions. Using your mouse, drag the NEXTSESS function from the chart and drop it on the key you’ve chosen.

Click “Chart Close” to close the chart, then click OK to close the keyboard mapper. Click Save As to give the new keyboard scheme a name. OK everything and save the settings. From that point on, when you have the correct keyboard scheme chosen, you can cycle through the open sessions in a TinyTERM or TERM window by pressing the chosen key.

Failed to Undo Existing Registry Entry
March 26th, 2007

This Windows error usually comes up after logging in. To get rid of it, go to Start | Programs | Startup. Delete the “Century Repair” icon there. You may need to delete it through:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

or its equivalent instead.

Setup Is Unable to Uncompress and Copy All of the Program Files Needed
March 26th, 2007

This error only happens on Windows PCs. It means the temporary directories are overloaded with InstallShield files.

To fix the problem, go to the temporary directories specified by the TEMP and TMP environment variables. Delete any directory in them that starts with _istmp. Empty the Recycle Bin. TinyTERM will install properly after that.

Century Internet Services Was Unable to Install a Link
March 26th, 2007

When you see this error, TinyTERM Plus was installed on your PC. However, it did not recognize Windows 2000 or XP as it should have, and so installed files appropriate only to Windows 95, 98 or Me.

To get rid of the error, click on Start | Run and enter:

regedit

in the dialog, then click OK. In the Registry Editor, go to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion

Check the Run, RunOnce and RunOnceEx keys. If you find nar_inet.exe in any of the three, delete that line. That will get rid of the error. You can then delete the directory C:\Program Files\Century\TinyTERM\NetUtils, or uninstall and reinstall TinyTERM if you prefer.

Installing Over a Previous Version
March 26th, 2007

It is sometimes possible to install TinyTERM or TERM over a previous version of the same software. Bu in general, Century Software, Inc., recommends you uninstall prior versions first. If the version of TERM or TinyTERM you have does not include an uninstall program, please see our instructions on uninstalling manually.

Insufficient Disk Space to Complete the Install
March 26th, 2007

TinyTERM and TERM make use of the local system temporary directories during install. If those directories contain too many files, even if there is enough overall disk space otherwise, then you can get an error about insufficient disk space. To get rid of the error, go to the directories defined by your system variables TEMP and TMP, and delete everything you can from them. (On Windows systems, empty the Recycle Bin after doing this.) Then start the install again.

Unattended Install
March 26th, 2007

TinyTERM version 4.20 and higher can be installed unattended. For versions 4.20-4.43, the document that describes the process is available here. It’s also installed with TinyTERM, though it’s not available on all CDs without installing first.

The first releases of the AutoInstT.rtf file do contain errors when installing the Network Utilities included in TinyTERM Plus. The document linked above corrects those errors.

For TinyTERM version 4.53, an MSI install file is available instead for customers with a current maintenance contract. Contact Technical Support at +1-801-268-3088 ext 5, or by email at support@centurysoftware.com.

Scale Font to Screen
March 26th, 2007

TinyTERM for Windows versions prior to 4.00 have an option to scale the font to the screen. This causes the font to resize automatically for a best fit in the current emulator window.

If this is turned off, the user can select the font size instead. This allows viewing only a portion of the screen at a time, but at a much larger size. Scrollbars allow the user to move left or right, up or down at will through the current screen.

This feature was removed in TinyTERM version 4.00. The customer-requested addition of the ability to add a background image to the emulator window required it. With a background image in place, using the horizontal scrollbar caused font display problems. So in TinyTERM version 4.x, the font automatically scales to the screen. There is no workaround.

TinyTERM and TERM on other operating systems rely on the OS to handle font sizing. There are no font size settings for DOS, UNIX, Linux, etc.

132-Column Mode Fails in TinyTERM 4.20
March 26th, 2007

TinyTERM version 4.20 will not reliably switch the number of columns from 80 to 132. There is no patch for this. The only solution is to use a different version of TinyTERM.
