Using TinyTERM 3.2 on Windows 95 via a serial line, TinyTERM will fail to get a login prompt. HyperTerminal works on the same connection. To fix this, edit the .tap file with any text editor. Search for the line:
rts=OFF
Change OFF to ON. This is a bug in the handling of DTR on and off commands.

Windows defaults to disconnecting a modem after a set idle period. To increase that timeout, open the Control Panel and go to the Phone and Modem Options. Open the properties for your modem. On the Advanced tab, click the Change Default Preferences button. You can set the idle timeout there.

You may see sporadic Winsock errors in TinyTERM when connecting to an Ishare modem server. This happens when the Ishare modem server conflicts with the TCP/IP settings for the local network. You will need to redirect Ishare to look at the modem server only, and redirect the local network to look at the network configuration only. This may require a hosts file on the PC.

Occasionally TinyTERM 3.3 will not save a change to the IP address or phone number it’s using. When that happens, open the .tap file in Notepad or another text editor. Make the change there, then save the file. It will be in effect the next time you start TinyTERM.

This error happens installing TinyTERM 3.x to Windows 3.1. It means there is a 32-bit driver loading somewhere in Windows.
To bypass the error, you will need to locate the 32-bit driver causing the problem, then disable it until TinyTERM is installed. Unfortunately, there is no easy way to do this. Check the documentation on other installed software to see which program might be causing this.

The full error message is, “This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. TN3232 caused an invalid page fault in Winfws32.dll.” To get rid of this error, uncheck the “Enable Extended Attributes” setting in the Attributes tab of the Preferences.

When you see this message in TERM for UNIX, it means there’s a problem in the .termsys file. Edit the file and look for the line that starts:
setv _turnchar
It will have extraneous information after that. Change the line to read:
setv _turnchar “\r”
Save the file. That will get rid of the error.

Using TinyTERM 3.2 on Windows 3.1, Netscape will not load pages if the Marathon Winsock.dll is in place. However, using Netscape’s Winsock.dll causes TinyTERM to dial the modem, rather than connecting to an ISP.
To bypass this, use the Century Internet Dialer to connect to the ISP before starting Netscape or TinyTERM. This will allow the use of Netscape’s Winsock.dll, while TinyTERM will still recognize the ISP connection.

Install Stops
April 10th, 2007
If the install stops, or if it causes the PC to hang on reboot, there are a few steps to try. Do the following one at a time, testing the install after each.
- Close all background tasks, especially virus and spyware scanners. Other Internet-enabled software should be closed as well.
- Run Scandisk to clean up any disk errors.
- Empty the Recycle Bin to free disk space. Delete all temporary files as well.
- Defragment the hard drive. This one should be saved for last, as it will take some time.
If none of these work, locate the zipse directory on the TinyTERM CD. Copy the file ttpl.exe from that directory to your hard drive. Then boot the PC in safe mode and install from that copied file.
If you need the Network Utilities, also copy netutils.exe from the same directory. Run it immediately after the ttpl.exe program finishes.
