HP Tru64 UNIX
April 25th, 2007
Century Software, Inc., has had a request to compile TERM for HP’s Tru64 UNIX. We have not done so thus far.

When using FTP, file permissions on uploaded files — the UNIX umask setting — are controlled by the FTP daemon. Century Software, Inc., has had a request to add a umask option to our FTP clients. This has not been implemented at this time.

When printing through LPD on Windows 95, 98 or Me, the escape sequences for printer setup are lost. The Bypass Windows Print Drivers option does not change this. This has been reported by a reliable source, but it has not been duplicated by Century Software, Inc.

When you use the file tttc.exe from the zipse directory on the TinyTERM 4.20 CD, it does start to run. Shortly after that you get the message, “Setup has detected some old dll files on your system. You must restart to continue installation.” After rebooting you get a “missing shortcut” error. The install never starts back up. If you manually restart the install, it does the same thing.

By scrolling back through the session buffer, you can view text that would otherwise be gone. But you cannot highlight more than one screen for copy operations. There is no way to select text across both the current screen and one in the scrollback buffer at the same time.
To work around this limitation, turn on data capture before scrolling starts. The entire session will be saved to the capture file. You can then get the screens you need from that file.

TSL_Trans() Fails
April 25th, 2007
The CScript command tsl_trans() is ignored. It compiles and executes if entered properly, but it does nothing. The same is true of the TERM Script Language command TRANS, if run in TinyTERM 4.x.

When you copy text from the TinyTERM window, trailing blank space you may have selected gets copied as spaces. For example, if you select a block of text that looks like this on screen:
Copy the text from
TinyTERM emulator
into the Notepad.
the second and third lines are padded to the length of the first with spaces.
This is due to the way TinyTERM displays text. Each character on screen has its own “cell.” When you select a block of text, you’re actually highlighting a set of cells. Those that have no text in them are treated as spaces. So when you paste the text into any application, those spaces get pasted as well.

Hide NFS Server
April 25th, 2007
Century Software, Inc., has had a request to make it possible to hide the NFS Server, rather than displaying it on the Windows task bar. It could run as a service, or minimize to the system tray, for example. This enhancement has not been implemented.

This problem was first defined in a customer application. In one of the database screens, F1 should update the database with the information contained in the fields on the screen, then notify the user of the change. In TinyTERM Plus it does not update the database, but still indicates that it has been changed. F1 works properly everywhere else. This particular data entry screen does a callback to the emulator to update the screen. TinyTERM Plus does not handle it correctly.

Open TinyTERM’s Session Properties. On the Session tab, configure a modem connection. Click the Setup button next to the selected modem in Available Devices. Change the maximum speed. Whatever speed you select becomes the maximum available until you close and reopen TinyTERM.
This is purely a cosmetic issue. The dialog that allows the user to change the baud rate is actually a Windows dialog, even though the same thing does not happen through Control Panel. And actually, the baud rate set there doesn’t affect TinyTERM.
The reason is that Windows TAPI sets the baud rate when it initializes the modem. It resets the value in the dialog, then doesn’t use that dialog again. There is no real way to change the baud rate in TinyTERM. It’s not necessary, either, because TAPI should select the best available rate. If it fails to do so, try updating your modem drivers first. If that still does not help, you can manually dial the modem instead.
