Cannot Find Network Printer

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

TinyTERM Thin Client will return this error for some network printers. It’s particularly common with printer names that are very long. In that case, you can generally select the printer and use it correctly once, but making any changes to printer setup after that cause the above error.

CR 546, fixed in TinyTERM Thin Client 4.33

Fonts Not Installed in Thin Client Environment

Friday, April 20th, 2007

TinyTERM Thin Client does not install the TinyTERM fonts. Nor does TinyTERM Plus 4.40 or higher when the thin client install option is selected. You’ll need to add a new font in that situation.

TinyTERM Thin Client Won’t Install as Evaluation

Friday, April 20th, 2007

When installing TinyTERM Thin Client 4.30 from the tttc.zip file, it gives the error, “Your serial number does not match your activation key.” This is due to an invalid evaluation license in the file install.bat. It does not happen when using the tttc.exe file, nor when installing from CD.

The situation is reversed in TinyTERM Thin Client 4.31. In that version, the tttc.zip file installs without a problem. But the tttc.exe file gives the license error. TinyTERM Thin Client 4.33 does not have an evaluation problem.

TinyTERM Thin Client on Windows 95, 98 or Me

Friday, April 20th, 2007

TinyTERM Thin Client 4.02-4.21 should only be installed on Windows NT, 2000, XP or 2003 Server. Other operating systems should produce an error message, or simply not allow the install at all.

Some versions of TinyTERM Thin Client will install on incorrect versions of Windows. The expected error message does not come up, and the install is incomplete, but it does install. This was corrected in TinyTERM Thin Client 4.30. And TinyTERM Thin Client was combined with TinyTERM Plus in version 4.40.

TinyTERM Thin Client License Failure

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

Some versions of TinyTERM Thin Client give the error, “Serial number does not match activation key” on install. This also happens with TinyTERM Web Server and TinyTERM Web Server Client in the same releases. It’s fixed in version 4.20.

Application Failed to Initialize

Friday, April 6th, 2007

Using TinyTERM Thin Client on Windows NT 4.0, when you are logged in as an administrator TinyTERM runs without a problem. Non-administrator users may see the error, “Application failed to initialize.”

When this happens, locate the file MS42.DLL . Grant full access rights to all users for that file. That will clear up the error.

Configuration Files Not Saved to User Directory

Thursday, April 5th, 2007

If TinyTERM is not saving individual users’ settings to their TTweb directories, they have to browse to their TTweb directories manually to save and open .tpx files. As a workaround, do the following:

  1. Create the configuration file (.tpx extension).
  2. Manually save the .tpx file in the user’s directory.
  3. Create a desktop shortcut to the tt.exe file.
  4. Modify the Target parameter to point to the .tpx file in the user’s directory:

    “C:\Program Files\Century\TinyTerm\tt.exe” -nosplash “C:\User Directory\TTweb\configuration.tpx”

Change “User Directory” to match the path on your Windows server. It varies with the version of Windows.

The -nosplash parameter is optional. It disables the splash screen on startup.

Once you have opened TinyTERM from the desktop shortcut, any changes will be saved in the correct directory.
