Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP )

A network protocol that provides communication across interconnected networks that may use different hardware platforms (i.e. Windows to UNIX systems).

Actually two separate and specific protocols, TCP/IP is often used to refer to an entire suite of protocols including TELNET and FTP.
