Distance limits for RS-232 cables
Although the RS-232 standard imposes an official limit of 50 feet on RS-232
cables, in practice, they can be much longer. The maximum workable length is
dependent on baud rate. According to McNamara (Technical Aspects of Data
Communications, Digital Press, 1982), the following distances limits apply:
