Dialing a modem

Modem connections are similar to direct connections. However, when connecting to the remote system with a modem, the TinyTERM Emulator must first open the serial port and then dial the modem.

  1. Customize the session for this modem connection: Especially check these options:

  1. When your settings match your remote system, click on Connect.

Close the Session Properties dialog and:

  1. The TinyTERM Emulator immediately connects to the communications port allowing you to send commands to your modem.

  2. Type the modem commands required to dial the modem.

  3. At this point, the modem takes control and calls the remote system. When the remote modem answers, the modems connect and you see the message "CONNECTED". Press ENTER once or twice and you should see a prompt from the remote system.

Example:

To customize for a modem used on COM2:

  1. From the Edit menu, click Session, or press the Session button on the button bar. The Session tab displays.

  2. Within the Connection group, set Connection type to Modem .

  3. Click on the Setup… button.

  4. The Modem setup dialog dialog displays.

  5. Check these options:

  1. These options must match what your remote system expects. If they do not, make the required changes. For more information see Modem Setup.

  2. To accept the new settings, press ENTER or click OK. To reject the new settings, press ESC or click Cancel.

For example, to dial 555-1212 on a Hayes-compatible modem:
