Accessing Remote Systems
Before transferring information from a local system to a remote or host
system, a connection must be established. A connection may be as simple as a cable
connecting the serial ports of two computers sitting side-by-side, or as complex
as a microwave satellite link connecting two computers 5,000 miles apart. A
number of factors, including location, distance and cost, dictate the type of
connection.
