LPD Overprints Lines

Tuesday, May 1st, 2007

This was reported with an 80-line ASCII file printed via Century LPD to an Epson 2550 dot-matrix printer, using the “generic/text only” driver in Windows XP. With Bypass Windows print driver set, lines 66 and 67 print on top of each other. Without that set, there’s an extra line feed between lines 64 and 65 instead. This has not been duplicated thus far.

Tuesday, May 1st, 2007

Century Software, Inc., has had a request for an LPD option that would add a form feed to print jobs. This has not been implemented thus far.

Can’t Open LPD Manager on XP

Monday, April 30th, 2007

Right-click the “hammer-and-wrench icon” in the System tray. The Century LPD Server window should open.

Century Software, Inc., has had a report of this failing on Windows XP. Single-, double- and right-clicking the icon all fail. Running CenLPDstatus.exe again just produces a new icon. A thorough uninstall followed by a reinstall didn’t help. This has not been duplicated.

DOS LPD Prints Three Copies

Monday, April 30th, 2007

Century Software, Inc., has had a report from a customer using TinyTERM Plus for DOS. The PC has an HP 1100 on LPT1: set up as an LPD printer. Printing from both SCO and Linux systems, each print job produces three copies. Printing from DOS applications does not do this, nor does printing to locally attached printers on the hosts.

The PC uses a 3C509 network card on IRQ 7 with a packet driver. Changing the network IRQ doesn’t affect the problem.

LPD Jobs Lost When Sent Consecutively

Monday, April 30th, 2007

When multiple print jobs are sent to the Century LPD server in rapid succession, some are lost. The print data is never seen by the PC, and some of the jobs are never printed.

CR 575, fixed in TinyTERM 4.53 (May 2007)

CenLPDstatus.exe Fails with Large Fonts

Friday, April 27th, 2007

In Windows NT, 2000 or XP, open the Control Panel. Go to the Display applet and select Settings. Click the Advanced button. If the Font Size drop-down is set to Large Fonts, the CenLPDstatus.exe program will open, but you won’t be able to make any changes. This is related to the way Visual Basic handles large fonts.

LPD Strips Escape Sequences

Wednesday, April 25th, 2007

When printing through LPD on Windows 95, 98 or Me, the escape sequences for printer setup are lost. The Bypass Windows Print Drivers option does not change this. This has been reported by a reliable source, but it has not been duplicated by Century Software, Inc.

LPD Option to Convert LF to CR/LF Pair

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

The Century LPD Server for Windows 95, 98 and Me has an option to convert line feeds to carriage return/line feed pairs. The same option was added to the Century LPD Server for Windows NT, 2000 and XP in TinyTERM Plus 4.41.

CR 604

LPD Spool Directory Requires Trailing \

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

You can’t specify a spooling directory for the Century LPD Server unless you put a backslash \ at the end of the path. For example, if you specify C:\temp as your spooling directory, LPD jobs actually spool to C:\, with the word “temp” appended to the beginning of the spool file name. You have to specify C:\temp\ as the spool directory.

CR 569, documentation clarified in TinyTERM Plus 4.40

LPD Install Option

Friday, April 20th, 2007

TinyTERM Plus 4.30 added an LPD server for Windows NT, 2000 and XP. However, there was no option not to install it. That was added in TinyTERM Plus 4.31.
